=== Florida State, Auburn sit 1-2; Ohio State tumbles in poll ===
New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Florida State and Auburn are the top two
teams in the Associated Press college football poll heading into the bowl
season, while Ohio State tumbled from second to seventh following its loss to
Michigan State in the Big Ten title game.
The Seminoles won the ACC crown Saturday night with a 45-7 pasting of Duke in
Charlotte to complete a 13-0 season. Florida State received 56 first-place
votes, two fewer than last week, and a total of 1,496 points from a nationwide
media panel to retain the top spot for the second week in a row.
Auburn moved up one spot to second after claiming the SEC title with a 59-42
victory over Missouri in Atlanta. The Tigers picked up the remaining four
first-place votes and 1,444 points in the balloting.
Alabama, which dropped from first to fourth last week after its last-second
loss to Auburn in the Iron Bowl, moved up one spot to third and is followed by
Big Ten champion Michigan State. The Spartans, after a 34-24 win over
previously unbeaten Ohio State, vaulted six spots from 10th.
Pac-12 champ Stanford, Big 12 winner Baylor, Ohio State, South Carolina,
Missouri and Oregon complete the top 10. Baylor moved up three spots from
ninth, while Missouri dipped four places from fifth.
The second 10 consists of Oklahoma, Clemson, Oklahoma State, LSU, UCF, Arizona
State, UCLA, Louisville, Wisconsin and Texas A&M. Oklahoma State tumbled seven
spots from sixth after falling to arch-rival Oklahoma, which rose seven places
from 18th after winning the annual Bedlam Series grudge match to deny the
 Cowboys a BCS bowl bid.
Fresno State, Duke, Georgia, Northern Illinois and Notre Dame are the last
five teams ranked. Duke dropped two spots after its humbling loss to Florida
State, while Northern Illinois plummeted eight spots from 16th after losing
the MAC title game to Bowling Green.
Notre Dame is the lone newcomer this week, replacing Texas, which lost to
Baylor in what turned into a Big 12 championship tilt after Oklahoma State's
loss. The Longhorns had been 23rd.
