Final Score: Winnipeg 31, Saskatchewan 2
Winnipeg, MB (Sports Network) - Fred Reid rushed for two touchdowns as the Winnipeg Blue Bombers dominated the Saskatchewan Roughriders, 31-2.
Reid finished the game with 17 carries for 148 yards while Steven Jyles went 19-for-23 for 169 yards and a score for the Blue Bombers (3-7), who snapped a five-game slide.
"We haven't been doing so great the past couple of weeks," said Reid. "We started coming out practicing hard and trying to get better and it's coming together. It's going to come together right at the perfect time we need to head down the stretch so we can make a run at the playoffs."
Darian Durant was 19-for-35 with 168 yards and an interception for the Roughriders (6-4), who have alternated losses and wins over their past seven games. Andy Fantuz had five catches for 61 yards in the loss.
"In all phases, we just didn't get it done," said Durant. "We had three penalties to take away turnovers. We would move the ball and then we'd stall."
Winnipeg got the first points of the game when Reid took the ball into the end zone from eight yards out to cap a seven-play, 66-yard drive for a 7-0 lead with about 8 1/2 minutes left in the first quarter.
Saskatchewan return man Dominique Dorsey lost the ball on the ensuing kickoff and the Blue Bombers turned that into three points on a 38-yard field goal from Justin Palardy for a 10-0 lead.
In the second quarter, Reid busted off a 61-yard run into the end zone to give Winnipeg a 17-0 lead.
Saskatchewan got on the board with a single, but Alex Brink punched the ball into the end zone from a yard out in the waning moments of the first half to give Winnipeg a 24-1 lead at the break.
A 52-yard single by Luca Congi accounted for the only point of the third quarter to make it a 24-2 game.
The Bombers made it a 29-point game early in the final stanza when Jyles and Chris Davis got together on a 40-yard touchdown.
Saskatchewan hosts Calgary on Friday...Winnipeg plays in Toronto next Sunday...Saskatchewan had won five straight and six of seven against Winnipeg coming into the game...Davis finished the game with six catches for 88 yards.
