Albany to open season against Colgate, Maine

Albany, NY (Sports Network) - The University of Albany football team will kick off its 2011 season on Sept. 3 at Colgate and play five home games as part of an 11-game schedule.

The season opener will make the 11th time in the last 13 years that Albany will begin its campaign with a road game.

The Great Danes' home opener will be against Maine on Sept. 17. Their other games at University Field will occur within Northeast Conference play against Duquesne (Oct. 8), Robert Morris on Homecoming (Oct. 15), Bryant (Nov. 5) and Sacred Heart (Nov. 19).

The Great Danes are coming off a 6-5 season, which is a school-record fifth consecutive winning campaign. Head coach Bob Ford is first among active FCS coaches, and fourth all-time, with 247 career victories.
