GAME NOTES: The Wright State Raiders and Bowling Green Falcons square off in non-conference action Monday night at the Stroh Center.
Wright State captured its fifth victory on the season with Saturday's 66-57 home win against Morehead State. Of the five victories on the season, three have come on the road.
The Falcons are sitting at a game under .500 at 3-4 on the season. The team had a brief two-game win streak halted at home on Saturday, with a 58-49 loss to Youngstown State.
Bowling Green leads the all-time series with Wright State 6-4.
The Raiders received a career-performance by Cole Darling and held off Morehead State down the stretch to earn a big win over the weekend. Darling scored 22 of his career-high 29 points in the first half and was a sterling 10-of-13 shooting, including a perfect 3-of-3 from behind the arc. Matt Vest added 10 points in support for Wright State, which shot a sizzling 60 percent from the floor in the game, including 6-of-12 from long range.
Wright State isn't an offensive juggernaut at 61.0 ppg, but still enjoy a +6.0 scoring margin thanks to solid defensive play, holding foes to just 55.0 ppg and forcing just over 16 turnovers per game. Darling's big game puts him at a team-high 12.8 ppg. JT Yoho is also in double figures at 10.4 ppg, while Miles Dixon (9.6 ppg) and Vest (8.9 ppg) give the team other options at the offensive end.
The Falcons shot just 31 percent from the floor and scored a season-low 49 points in their loss to the Penguins this past weekend. The overall shooting percentage was hampered by an ugly 2-of-14 from 3-point range. Jordon Crawford led the way in defeat with 16 points, although he was 0-for-6 from behind the arc. A'uston Calhoun joined Crawford in double figures with 12 points, while grabbing a team-high seven rebounds.
The offensive struggles for Bowling Green have been a constant source of concern early on. The team comes into this contest averaging just 64.1 ppg, and doing so on a mediocre .409 shooting. Despite the lack of offensive firepower throughout the roster, Crawford and Calhoun have been a potent one- two punch. Crawford leads the team at 17.4 ppg, with a team-best 15 3- pointers. Calhoun is a close second in the scoring column at 16.3 ppg and tops the squad on the boards with 6.7 rpg.
The Raiders have proven they can win games on the road already this season. The Falcons on the other hand have struggled with consistency and could fall victim to Wright State here.
Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Wright State 67, Bowling Green 62
