(Saturday, February 16)

Final Score: Cornell 69, Brown 66

Providence, RI (Sports Network) - Johnathan Gray netted 18 points to lead the Big Red as Cornell hung on for a 69-66 win over the Brown Bears in an Ivy League matchup at the Pizzitola Sports Center.

Shonn Miller added 13 points, eight rebounds, and blocked four shots for Cornell (13-12, 5-3 Ivy) as it picked up its third win in a row to rise above the .500 mark for the first time since winning its season-opener on Nov. 10.

Sean McGonagill paced Brown (9-13, 3-5) with 19 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the floor, but he was also guilty of six turnovers. Cedric Kuakumensah notched a double-double of 13 points and a career-high 19 boards and Matt Sullivan chimed in with 10 points as the Bears were defeated for the fourth time in five games.

Brown held a 21-19 rebounding advantage in the first half, but it also shot just 39.3 percent from the floor and committed nine turnovers before the break. The Big Red took a 40-29 lead into halftime after they drained 5-of-12 from 3-point range in the opening 20 minutes.

The Bears rallied back after the intermission by improving to connect on 44.4 percent of their field goal tries including 6-of-12 from beyond the arc. Cornell almost let its lead slip away as it made just 10-of-19 at the free- throw line in the second half. McGonagill hit a triple with 25 seconds left in regulation to bring Brown within two points. After Cornell's Galal Cancer went 1-of-2 at the charity stripe, Stephen Albrecht's missed a game-tying attempt from distance which gave the Big Red the three-point decision.

Despite the loss, Brown held a 41-31 edge in the rebounding battle. Cornell outscored the Bears, 16-10, in points off of turnovers and also, 29-12, in bench points.
