Bruins sign GM Chiarelli to four-year extension

Boston, MA (Sports Network) - The Boston Bruins rewarded general manager Peter Chiarelli with a four-year contract extension through the 2017-18 season.

Chiarelli, who was named general manager before the 2006-07 season, has guided the Bruins to the playoffs six times, including a Stanley Cup championship in 2011 and an Eastern Conference title in 2013.

The 49-year-old Chiarelli became just the third GM in Bruins history to win a Stanley Cup in Boston in 2010-11, joining both Art Ross (1929, 1939, 1941) and Milt Schmidt (1970 and 1972).

Under Chiarelli's command, the Bruins have amassed a 291-187-62 record during the regular season, including five 90-plus point seasons.

In addition to his general manager duties, Chiarelli will also continue serving as an alternate governor on the NHL's Board of Governors.
