Blues escape Winnipeg with one-goal victory
Winnipeg, MB (SportsNetwork.com) - Kevin Shattenkirk's power-play marker with 3:02 left in regulation was the winner, as St. Louis clipped Winnipeg, 2-1, at MTS Centre.
Alex Steen also lit the lamp and Brian Elliott stopped 20 shots for the Blues, who reached the 20-win plateau by taking their seventh victory in the last 10 outings.
Bryan Little scored and Ondrej Pavelec made 18 saves for the Jets, who have dropped three of their last five.
Jets defenseman Dustin Byfuglien was sent off for hooking with 3:26 to play in the third period, and the Blues wasted little time in breaking a 1-1 deadlock.
Derek Roy fed across to Shattenkirk at the left point, and his shot changed direction en route to the net and floated over Pavelec.
Steen opened the scoring with 4:44 gone in the second period, as his low shot from along the goal line to the left of the Winnipeg net found space through Pavelec.
Little evened the game on a power play at the three-minute mark of the third, taking an Andrew Ladd dish and scoring on a high shot from the inner edge of the right circle.
The Blues have won two of three against the Jets this season and five of six since the start of the 2010-11 campaign ... According to the Free Press on Tuesday, the Jets will host a Heritage Classic -- the NHL's outdoor game in Canada -- some time during the winter of 2016.
