NBA Game Summary - Memphis at Cleveland

(Sunday, February 9th)

Final Score: Cleveland 91, Memphis 83 (OT)

Cleveland, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Kyrie Irving netted 28 points with six assists and five boards to lead the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 91-83 overtime victory over the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday.

Dion Waiters and C.J. Miles added 18 and 14 points, respectively, off the bench and Anderson Varejao finished with 14 rebounds, five assists for the Cavaliers, who have won two straight.

Nick Calathes totaled 17 points, six assists and five rebounds and James Johnson added 15 points off the bench for Memphis, which has lost three of its last four. Zach Randolph contributed 14 points and eight rebounds in defeat.

"They are a talented team. They have a bunch of guys that can really score the basketball. I definitely think they're going to turn the corner in the last half of the season," said Grizzlies coach David Joerger.

Varejao scored just four points, however, two of which decided the game with 2:45 left in overtime. The Cavaliers outscored Memphis 13-5 in the extra frame.

Waiters punctuated the victory as he drove uncontested through the middle of the lane and slammed it home with authority to put Cleveland ahead by six with 41.1 seconds on the clock. Irving went 4-for-4 from the line in the final 30 seconds of overtime.

"We had a lot of good performances from everybody on the team. I thought Dion's dunk towards the end of overtime was huge for us," said Cavaliers coach Mike Brown. "We called a play in the huddle and he recognized where he had an advantage. He took it to the hole strong and finished the right way. That was a big difference in the ball game."

Cleveland led by nine with 6:22 remaining in the fourth before the Grizzlies ripped off 13 straight to take a 78-74 lead. Irving knocked down a 12-footer with 1:28 on the clock to pull within two.

Irving was fouled as he made an acrobatic layup on Cleveland's next touch after Varejao blocked Johnson. Cleveland's point guard failed to convert the three-point play and the game headed to overtime.

Neither team led by more than five points during the first quarter. Irving went 5-for-7 from the field for 14 points to help the Cavaliers carry a 22-18 advantage into the second.

Cleveland led 42-33 at the break and 59-58 after three quarters.
