Spurs throttle 76ers
San Antonio, TX (Sports Network) - Tony Parker scored a team-high 20 points and the San Antonio Spurs easily dispatched the Philadelphia 76ers, 109-86, at AT&T Center on Saturday.
Manu Ginobili tallied 19 points, seven rebounds and four assists off the bench. Tiago Splitter posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 boards for the Spurs, who bounced back after having their seven-game winning streak snapped to the Knicks on Thursday.
Tim Duncan posted 16 points, eight boards and four blocks in the victory.
The 76ers put an end to a woeful 2-6 road trip with their third straight loss. Spencer Hawes led the team with 22 points, while Evan Turner scored 12. Thaddeus Young and Jason Richardson each followed with 11.
Jrue Holiday finished with 11 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists in the setback.
The Spurs led for almost the entire contest. A Ginobili 3-pointer just past the midway point in the first helped the Spurs open up a 20-9 advantage. He scored 10 in the period to help San Antonio to a 31-21 lead by the end of the first.
Young's running jumper helped the Sixers close the gap to six early in the second period, but they never came closer the rest of the way.
After Splitter threw down a dunk to put San Antonio ahead 42-32 at the seven- minute mark, the Spurs held a double-digit edge the rest of the quarter and carried a 54-42 advantage going into halftime.
The Sixers fell behind by 19 points in the third after a driving score by Parker put the Spurs ahead 74-55 and the quarter ended with the hosts holding an 81-63 edge.
Gary Neal's 3-pointer with 5:42 left in the fourth created San Antonio's largest cushion of the game at 96-71.
Duncan passed Adrian Dantley for 24th on the NBA's all-time scoring list ... Philadelphia shot just 17.6 percent (3-for-17) from three-point range ... The 76ers will return home to play the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday ... The Spurs will travel to New Orleans to face the Hornets on Monday.
