Description: Texas starter Martin Perez is headed for Tommy John surgery. SOURCE: Dallas Morning News
Insight: This is what we feared when the Rangers placed him on the disabled list earlier this week. Perez, who was recently diagnosed with a partially torn UCL in his left elbow, faces a 12-to-15 month recovery period.

Insight: Another pitcher goes down with an elbow injury. Perez is weighing his options but we know how this usually ends. Nick Martinez and Nick Tepesch will join Texas' rotation in place of Perez and Matt Harrison (back).

Description: The Rangers have placed Martin Perez (elbow inflammation) on the 15-day disabled list.
Insight: An MRI ruled out damage to Perez's UCL, but he's still out indefinitely. Nick Tepesch has been called up to take his place in the rotation after posting a 1.58 ERA in Triple-A.

Insight: Inflammation is better than a tear but Perez will still miss at least one start. It's unknown if he'll require a stint on the disabled list. So far Perez is 4-3 for Texas this season with 35 strikeouts and a 4.38 ERA in eight starts.

Insight: Perez (4-3, 4.38 ERA) is out with elbow inflammation. Don't be surprised if the 23-year-old lands on the disabled list.

Description: Rangers starter Martin Perez will get an MRI on his sore left elbow.
Insight: Perez started 4-0 with a 1.42 ERA and a 0.92 WHIP, but has yielded 19 earned runs over his last 13 1/3 IP. Now we know why.

Hot4/18/2014 10:55:00 PM
Description: Texas lefty Martin Perez hasn't allowed a run in his last two starts.
Insight: Friday was Perez's first career shutout (9 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 8 K's, 1 BB against the White Sox). He's 12th in the American League this season with a 1.86 ERA in 29 innings.

4/13/2014 9:05:00 PM
Description: Rangers starter Martin Perez gave up just five hits (all singles) over eight scoreless innings Sunday against Houston to improve to 2-0.
Insight: Houston didn't have a runner reach second base due in large part to four GIDPs. The 23-year-old Perez has good upside and should be owned in 12-team mixed leagues.

11/7/2013 10:39:00 PM
Description: The Rangers signed Martin Perez to a four-year contract extension with club options for 2018, 2019 and 2020.
Insight: Perez has been one of Texas' top prospects for several years and finally made a big impact in the big leagues this season. He went 10-6 with a 3.62 ERA in 124 1/3 innings and will be in the rotation next season.

Hot8/29/2013 9:52:00 AM
Description: Rangers starter Martin Perez improved to 5-0 in August Wednesday against the Mariners.

Description: Texas lefthander Martin Perez went the distance Sunday for his fifth win of the season.
Insight: Sunday marked Perez's first complete game in 16 big league starts. Over nine innings, he allowed just four hits and one run, walking two while collecting eight strikeouts. The 22-year-old from Venezuela will look to duplicate Sunday's performance next week against the Mariners.

6/20/2013 6:46:00 PM
Description: Rangers left-hander Martin Perez will be recalled from Triple-A to start Saturday against the Cardinals, according to Anthony Andro of FOXSportsSouthwest.com.
Insight: Perez has gone 4-0 with a 1.13 ERA in four starts with Round Rock. The former prospect spent the first month of the season on the DL with a fractured wrist and could be a decent mixed league starter if given the chance. Nick Tepesch will be moved back from Saturday to Sunday, and Yu Darvish will go Tuesday. Perez is replacing Josh Lindblom in the rotation.

6/20/2013 6:34:00 PM
Description: Rangers left-hander Martin Perez is expected to be recalled from Triple-A Round Rock, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Insight: Perez has gone 4-0 with a 1.13 ERA in four starts with Round Rock. The Rangers have listed Saturday's starter as "TBD" instead of keeping scheduled starter Nick Tepesch, who is 0-2 with a 6.95 ERA over his last four starts, on the board. That could mean Perez will be called up to start Saturday. The former prospect spent the first month of the season on the DL with a fractured wrist and could be a decent mixed league starter if given the chance.

Description: Rangers left-hander Martin Perez will be shut down for the next four weeks after suffering a fractured left forearm Sunday, according to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com. Perez was hit by a comebacker in Sunday's spring training game.
Insight: Perez was expected to battle Robbie Ross, Kyle McClellan and Randy Wells for the final spot in Texas' rotation. The injury could force Texas to sign free agent Kyle Lohse.
