Description: Nationals starter Doug Fister (lat strain) will start the season on the disabled list, according to William Ladson of mlb.com.
Insight: Fister's injury means Taylor Jordan and Tanner Roark will both be in the starting rotation. Roark was 7-1 with a 1.51 ERA and a 0.91 WHIP last season while Jordan went 1-3 with a 3.66 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP. It's obvious Roark is the better fantasy option.

Description: The Tigers have shipped righthander Doug Fister to the Nationals in exchange for infielder Steve Lombardozzi and a pair of lefthanded pitchers. SOURCE: Chris Cotillo, SB Nation
Insight: The move solidifies Drew Smyly's place in Detroit's starting rotation. It makes sense for Washington too as Dan Haren recently left to sign a one-year deal with the Dodgers.

9/2/2013 7:28:00 PM
Description: Tigers starter Doug Fister blanked Boston over seven innings Monday to win his 12th game of the year.
Insight: Fister had been struggling lately, going 1-2 with a 5.70 ERA in his previous four starts. The right-hander has posted a fantastic 1.85 BB/9 and a 0.55 HR/9 in 179 2/3 innings this season, but he has had terrible batted ball luck with men on base.

Hot7/26/2013 9:50:00 PM
Description: Detroit righthander Doug Fister limited the Phillies to just three hits in eight innings Friday at Comerica Park.
Insight: The only run he allowed was unearned. Fister is now 3-0 with a 1.35 ERA over his last three starts.

7/21/2013 7:19:00 PM
Description: Tigers starter Doug Fister gave up six earned runs in three of his last five starts before the All-Star break, but he had his second straight quality start Sunday against the Royals in his first start of the second half.
Insight: Fister allowed six hits and one run over six innings to improve to 8-5. He has a 3.90 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP this season, but his FIP is 3.41, nearly identical to last year's FIP of 3.42. He has been unlucky with a .318 BABIP and should eventually get his ERA down to the mid-threes.

Cold7/7/2013 6:07:00 PM
Description: Tigers starter Doug Fister has allowed six earned runs in three of his last four starts.
Insight: That includes Sunday's game against the Indians in which he gave up six runs on six hits in six innings. His ERA has jumped from 3.21 to 4.07 over his last four outings.

6/21/2013 10:48:00 PM
Description: Tigers starter Doug Fister was crushed by the Red Sox for 11 hits and six earned runs in 3 1/3 innings Friday night.

6/5/2013 10:09:00 PM
Description: Tigers starter Doug Fister took a shutout into the ninth inning Wednesday against the Rays but he gave up three runs in the inning while getting just one out.
Insight: Detroit was blanked by Alex Cobb and Tampa Bay's bullpen on the other side, so Fister likely wouldn't have recorded a win anyway. The right-hander threw seven shutout innings his last time out so he was going on 15 consecutive scoreless frames prior to the ninth-inning meltdown. Fister has a 3.27 ERA and has walked just 12 batters in 77 innings this season.

5/14/2013 10:48:00 PM
Description: Tigers starter Doug Fister beat the Astros Tuesday with seven innings of two-run ball to improve to 5-1.
Insight: With Fister, you know you're going to get an ERA south of 3.50 and a WHIP around 1.15, and the Tigers' offense should be able to get him plenty of wins this season. It's just a matter of how many innings he can throw without getting hurt.

4/11/2013 7:43:00 PM
Description: Tigers starter Doug Fister took care of the Toronto Blue Jays Thursday with eight strong innings of one-run ball.
Insight: Fister scattered eight hits, seven of which were singles, walked one and struck out five to improve to 2-0. If the right-hander can stay healthy, he'll be a reliable fantasy arm.
