Braves' Heyward leaves game after first at-bat
Washington, DC (Sports Network) - Atlanta Braves right fielder Jason Heyward left Tuesday's 2-1 win against the Washington Nationals following his first at-bat.
Just two pitches into the game, Heyward fouled off a high pitch from Gio Gonzalez. Heyward's follow through on the swing strained a muscle in his neck. The team said he is day-to-day.
Heyward received medical attention, but after a few minutes remained in the game and popped out on the next pitch for the first out of the game. Heyward immediately headed for the tunnel and didn't come out to play the field in the bottom of the first inning.
Evan Gattis entered the game for the Braves playing left field, while Justin Upton moved from left to right. Gattis had a two-run single in the fifth inning.
Heyward, who is hitting .234 this season with 10 homers and 31 RBI, was on the disabled list earlier this year due to appendectomy surgery.
