Pittsburgh, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Josh Harrison provided a spark both offensively and defensively to lead the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 2-1 win over the Cincinnati Reds in the opener of a three-game set on Friday. The game was scoreless until the eighth when the Reds broke the stalemate on Devin Mesoraco's RBI single. Pinch-hitter Andrew Lambo, who was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis earlier in the day, singled with one out in the home eighth off Jonathan Broxton (4-2). Lambo scampered home on Harrison's triple off the right-field wall, then Jose Tabata followed with a chopper through the hole on the left side that plated Harrison for a 2-1 lead. Tony Watson (10-1) recorded one out in the eighth for the win before Mark Melancon came on in the ninth and worked a 1-2-3 ninth for his 25th save of the season. Pittsburgh has won three straight and six of its last eight. Edinson Volquez, who carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning, was on the hook for the loss until his offense finally got going. Volquez allowed one run on three hits and three walks while striking out six in 7 2/3 innings.

Flushing, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Juan Lagares was able to bring in two runs as part of a three-run seventh inning, and the New York Mets grabbed a 4-1 win over the Philadelphia Phillies to open a three-game series. Wilmer Flores drove in a run and Eric Campbell stole home as part of a double steal for the Mets, who snapped a two-game slide. Jacob deGrom (7-6) allowed a run on four hits with two walks and five strikeouts over seven innings to pick up the win. Cody Asche drove in the only run of the game for the Phillies, who had a four-game winning streak snapped. David Buchanan pitched six innings and allowed one run on four hits. Jake Diekman (3-4) was charged with three unearned runs in the loss.

Atlanta, GA (SportsNetwork.com) - Justin Upton drove in three runs to lead the Atlanta Braves to a 5-2 victory over the Miami Marlins in the opener of a three-game set on Friday. Upton hit a two-run homer in the sixth. Jason Heyward finished 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored for Atlanta, which won its third straight game. David Carpenter (5-3) earned the win despite giving up a home run in the seventh. Starter Ervin Santana surrendered just one run on five hits and four walks with seven strikeouts over six innings of work. Marcell Ozuna went 3-for-4 with an RBI and Jordany Valdespin homered for the Marlins, who have lost three straight and five of their last six. The Braves went ahead in the seventh. Andrelton Simmons got aboard with a bunt single off Chris Hatcher (0-2) and Ramiro Pena's liner deflected off the glove of first baseman Garrett Jones to place runners at the corners with no outs. Heyward's grounder into left brought home Simmons to give Atlanta the lead.

St. Louis, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - Jorge Soler hit two home runs as part of a 3-for-3 game and the Chicago Cubs took a 7-2 win over the St. Louis Cardinals in the opener of a four-game series. Soler hit a solo home run and a two-run shot, while Luis Valbuena and Arismendy Alcantara each gave a solo homer for the Cubs, who snapped a two-game slide. Kyle Hendricks pitched six innings and gave up two runs on five hits. Neil Ramirez (2-1) pitched a scoreless seventh to get the win. Matt Holliday and Jhonny Peralta each drove in a run for the Cardinals, who have lost five of their last seven. Shelby Miller allowed two runs on four hits over seven innings in the no-decision.
