Final Score: Ottawa 4, Winnipeg 1
Ottawa, ON (Sports Network) - Craig Anderson made 35 saves to help the Ottawa Senators take a 4-1 win over the Winnipeg Jets.
Milan Michalek had two goals and an assist while Jason Spezza added a goal and two assists for the Senators, who snapped a three-game losing streak.
"We talked about it before the game that we had to come out with our best effort," said Spezza. "We backed it up tonight and did a real solid job out there."
Dustin Byfuglien had the lone goal for the Jets, who have dropped their past two games. Ondrej Pavelec stopped 26-of-29 shots in the loss.
"It's really frustrating out there right now," said Pavelec. "But the easy thing to do is start pointing fingers. We'll talk about it and come back out for Saturday's game."
Winnipeg got the only goal of the first period when Byfuglien's slap shot from the right point made its way through a screen at the 14:39 mark.
Ottawa tied the game 4:48 into the second period on the power play. Spezza blasted a shot on net from the left circle that Pavelec stopped, but Michalek was in front to backhand in the rebound.
The Senators took the lead with 6:41 to play in the middle session when Colin Greening received the puck behind the net and centered it for Spezza, who one- timed it home.
Anderson stopped all 23 shots he faced in the final two periods and Daniel Alfredsson scored his third of the season midway through the third before Michalek sealed the win with an empty-netter in the final minute of play.
The Jets host Carolina on Saturday...Ottawa hosts Columbus on Saturday...These teams split the series last season...Ottawa went 1-for-4 on the power play while Winnipeg was 0-for-4.
