GAME NOTES: The Charlotte 49ers will desperately try to put an end to a six- game losing streak when they host the Old Dominion Monarchs in a Conference USA showdown at Halton Arena.

Old Dominion has won two of its last three games, and three of its last five altogether. The Monarchs are coming off a 70-63 victory over Marshall on Thursday, which bumped the team up to 8-6 in the conference standings.

Charlotte has lost six games in a row and eight of the team's last 10 outings. The 49ers dropped a 75-58 decision to East Carolina on Thursday, and fell to 5-9 in the conference in the process.

Old Dominion leads the all-time series with Charlotte, 15-12. It's the first and only time these programs will meet on the court during this regular season.

Marshall went into the locker room at the half up by two points, 27-25, against Old Dominion. But the second half completely belonged to the Monarchs. Old Dominion netted 61.5 percent of its shots in the frame, and overcame the first-half deficit and then some, outscoring the Thundering Herd 45-36. Aaron Bacote netted a team-high 22 points, and Richard Ross tallied a career-high 19 points with 10 rebounds for the double-double. Denzell Taylor grabbed a team- best 11 boards in the win.

Bacote leads the team in scoring this season with 16.4 ppg, but is shooting just 39.8 percent from the floor. His 86 assists is a team best, and 36.2 percent mark from 3-point range is also a team high. Dimitri Batten is second in scoring at 10.8 ppg, and Keenan Palmore checks in with 10.4 ppg. Ross leads the Monarchs in rebounding with a 7.4 rpg average and adds 69 blocked shots to his resume.

East Carolina and Charlotte battled it out in the second half of Thursday's Conference USA clash, and the 49ers were able to outscore the Pirates, 44-43, in the frame. But East Carolina's first-half lead of eight points was just too much for Charlotte to overcome. Pierria Henry netted 20 points to lead his 49ers, adding five rebounds and four assists. Denzel Ingram and Terrence Williams each chipped in 11 points in the loss.

Shawn Lester, who scored just six points in the loss to East Carolina, still leads the 49ers this season with 12.6 ppg. Henry isn't very far behind Lester's scoring mark, though. The guard is netting 12.3 ppg with a team-high 154 assists and 59 steals on the year. Big man Willie Clayton tops the squad in rebounding with 8.8 rpg, and is third in scoring at 10.8 ppg. Williams rounds out the double-digit scorers for Charlotte with 10.7 ppg.

Old Dominion is on the road for this contest, but the 49ers haven't exactly defended their home court in the last few weeks, losing three of their last six at Halton Arena. Still, the Monarchs haven't been putting up point totals that would keep up with Charlotte.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Charlotte 73, Old Dominion 65
