Daytona moving forward with redevelopment plans
Daytona International Speedway
The track opened in 1959 and has hosted the Daytona 500 each year since then.
Daytona Beach, FL (Sports Network) - Major changes to Daytona International Speedway are coming soon.

International Speedway Corporation, which owns DIS, announced on Tuesday that its board of directors has approved funding to redevelop the frontstretch of the famed 2.5-mile racetrack. Groundbreaking for the project is scheduled to begin on July 5, which is the day before the 400-mile NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race here, and is targeted for completion in January 2016, prior to the Rolex 24 and Daytona 500.

The redevelopment is expected to cost between $375 million to $400 million. ISC plans to fund the redevelopment from cash on hand, cash from its operations and may use borrowings on its credit facility for a limited period of time to even out cash flow.   continue>>

Special day for Biffle, Ford at Michigan
By Chris Symeon, Motorsports Editor
Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - There was one heck of a celebration in victory lane on Sunday at Michigan International Speedway.

Greg Biffle not only won at Michigan on Father's Day, but he also delivered Ford its 1,000th victory in NASCAR national touring series competition -- Sprint Cup, Nationwide and Camping World Truck -- on the same day the automaker had its 110th birthday.

Biffle's win, though, did not come with ease until three laps to go when a hard-charging Jimmie Johnson made contact with the wall when his right-front tire went down. Johnson was running outside the top 10 for the final restart with less than 30 laps remaining, but the five-time Sprint Cup champion quickly moved through the field and was up to second with 10 laps to go.  continue>>
