Wawrinka to face Roger-Vasselin in Chennai final

Chennai, India (SportsNetwork.com) - Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland and Frenchman Edouard Roger-Vasselin were semifinal winners Saturday and will meet for the title at the season-opening Chennai Open.

Wawrinka, the 2011 Chennai champion, held a lead of 6-4, 5-5 against Vasek Pospisil when the Canadian retired with a back strain. Roger-Vasselin, seeded seventh this week, toppled Spain's Marcel Granollers 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 in the first semifinal.

The top-seeded Wawrinka was coming off his 300th career match win on Friday and took the first set Saturday by converting one of his two break-point chances. Pospisil failed on each of his six break opportunities in the first set and had rallied to square the second set before calling it quits.

Wawrinka will try for his fifth career title and will carry a record of 4-9 in finals into Sunday's match. He beat Xavier Malisse to win this tournament three years ago and was the runner-up to Marin Cilic in 2010.

Roger-Vasselin will compete in his second career title match. He lost to Ernests Gulbis in last year's final at Delray Beach.

Wawrinka and Roger-Vasselin have split two previous matches. The 30-year-old Frenchman notched a 6-4, 6-3 win last year in Basel, while the 28-year-old Swiss posted a three-set win two years ago at this event.
