GAME NOTES: The Charlotte 49ers are off to an early 10-4 start to the season and have won two games in a row, looking to make it three as they travel to face the Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners in Conference USA action at the Convocation Center.

Charlotte has won four of its last six games, including the last two outings against North Carolina A&T and UTEP. The most recent defeat of UTEP gave the 49ers their first conference win this season. Charlotte won that contest, 73-68.

UTSA has been up and down all season long, but has won two of its last three games. An 0-4 start to the season set the Roadrunners back, but a 4-3 record in their last seven games has helped get them in the right direction. UTSA took down Marshall 90-81 in its last outing.

This is the first ever meeting between the new Conference USA rivals. It's the only time they'll meet during the regular season.

Four players recorded double figures in the scoring department for Charlotte against UTEP, which led to a win in the conference opener for the 49ers. Mike Thorne Jr. netted 16 points and grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds for the double-double in the victory. Thorne shot 8-of-13 from the floor. Terrence Williams also contributed 16 points, shooting 4-of-9 and hitting eight of his 10 free-throw attempts. The 49ers connected on 48.1 percent of their shots in the contest.

Shawn Lester, who has only started one game this season for Charlotte, leads the team in scoring with a 13.4 ppg average in 14 games. In 25.9 minutes of action per outing, Lester has shot 44.1 percent from the field and 80 percent from the charity stripe. Willie Clayton and Pierria Henry contribute 11.9 and 11.5 ppg, respectively, while Clayton leads the team in rebounding at 9.2 rpg. The 49ers are shooting 44.9 percent from the floor this year.

In UTSA's first-ever Conference USA contest, it was reserve player Keon Lewis who came up big, lifting the Roadrunners to victory over Marshall, 90-81. Lewis shot 7-of-14 from the floor, including a perfect 3-of-3 from 3-point range, and grabbed five rebounds in the win. Hyjii Thomas added 14 points, while Phillip Jones netted 11 and Devon Agusi scored 10. The Roadrunners shot 56.6 percent from the floor and hit an incredible 77.8 percent from 3-point distance.

Lewis, who has only played in 11 out of 14 games for UTSA, leads the team in scoring with a 16 ppg average on 45.4 percent shooting from the field. Thomas is second at 12.4 ppg with a team-leading 32 total assists this season. Jones is the team's leading rebounder with 6 rpg. Jordan Sims is the only player to have started all 14 games this year for UTSA.

The Roadrunners dominated in their first Conference USA game against Marshall, but Charlotte is the stronger all-round team. Look for the 49ers' defense to halt the UTSA attack.
