Final Score: NC State 80, Georgia Tech 78 (OT)
Raleigh, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - T.J. Warren scored 20 points, including the game-winning basket in overtime, as the NC State Wolfpack slipped by Georgia Tech, 80-78, in an Atlantic Coast Conference bout at PNC Arena.
Warren knocked down 7-of-12 shots from the floor in the meeting and while he was held in-check for much of the second half, he made his presence known when it counted the most for the Wolfpack (13-7, 3-4 ACC) as they posted their second straight win.
Also scoring in double figures for NC State were Ralston Turner with 12 points, Desmond Lee 11 and Tyler Lewis 10 points in the triumph.
Georgia Tech (11-9, 2-5) was paced by Daniel Miller who dropped in a game-high 21 points and also pulled down 14 rebounds, seven of those coming at the offensive end of the floor as the Yellow Jackets bowed for the third time in four games. Trae Golden responded with 18 points, followed by Quinton Stephens and Marcus Georges-Hunt with 13 points apiece.
Both teams shot the ball well from the field in the first half, the hosts hitting on 53.6 percent and Georgia Tech and even 50 percent, but thanks to a 4-of-8 effort beyond the arc and 10-of-14 at the free-throw line, the Yellow Jackets were the ones heading into the intermission with a 40-35 advantage.
In the second half NC State continued to have the hot hand with 51.9 percent accuracy from the floor, allowing the Pack to close the gap after trailing by as many as 11 points (52-41) at the 15:56 mark.
With time ticking down, the Wolfpack had three opportunities to tie the score and it was Lee who took advantage with an uncontested tip-in with 22.5 seconds remaining in regulation to knot the score at 72-72.
Golden had a chance to grab the win for the Yellow Jackets, but his 3-pointer at the buzzer missed everything, sending the meeting into overtime.
Tied at 78-78, Warren threw up a floater in the lane that converted with 6.2 seconds remaining. At the other end Golden was called for an offensive foul, giving the ball back to the Wolfpack with 2.5 seconds left.
During the ensuing inbounds play, Turner was fouled before the clock began, but he missed both of his free-throw opportunities, affording the visitors one last opportunity with 2.2 seconds on the clock.
Georgia Tech got off a desperation 3-pointer as time expired, but it bounced off the back of the rim.
The Wolfpack shot 53.3 percent from the field for the game, helping the group to overcome a 42-31 rebounding deficit and only 11-of-20 shooting at the charity stripe.
