NFL Preseason Preview - Houston (2-1) at Dallas (2-2)|
By John McMullen, NFL Editor
(Sports Network) - The Houston Texans and Dallas Cowboys both aim to close out
the preseason on a positive note when they square off for Lone Star State
The Texans set franchise preseason records with 496 yards of offense and 365
yards passing in a 31-23 loss against New Orleans last Sunday.
Matt Schaub played the entire first half and threw for 213 yards on 15-of-26
attempts for the Texans, who had won their first two preseason games.
Ben Tate, starting in place of the injured Arian Foster, ran for a 1-yard TD
and gained 74 yards on 11 carries, while Andre Johnson caught seven passes for
131 yards in the loss.
"We just try to make the best of the opportunities," said Johnson. "We're just
out there playing. We are given opportunities and we try to make the best of
them. Whether it is preseason or regular season, we are trying to win.
"We will continue to work through next week. You can never be satisfied with
where you stand. The regular season is a marathon, not a sprint. We have to
continue to get better as a team."
The Cowboys evened their exhibition mark at 2-2 when Tony Romo threw for a
pair of first half touchdowns and 137 yards on 13-of-18 efficiency, as the
Dallas defeated the Cincinnati Bengals, 24-18, on Saturday.
Dez Bryant and Miles Austin each hauled in a touchdown pass from Romo, with
Bryant finishing with six catches for 54 yards. Austin had 59 yards on four
receptions for the Cowboys.
"I thought it was important more than anything just to score points and put us
in a position to have a good feeling," said Romo. "It was something we needed
to do because the starters hadn't gotten in the end zone yet."
The Cowboys had an excellent three-headed rushing attack as well. Julius
Randle ran for 66 yards on 16 carries, DeMarco Murray caught a touchdown and
had 51 yards on 12 rushes and Phillip Tanner had 39 yards on 14 totes.
Houston and Dallas have split their six preseason meetings. The last
time the teams met in the preseason, Foster ran for 110 yards on eight carries
to lead the Texans to a 23-7 win at Reliant Stadium on August 28, 2010.
