Description: Cardinals starter Joe Kelly exited his start on Wednesday afternoon with left hamstring tightness, according to Jenifer Langosch of mlb.com.
Insight: Kelly suffered the injury while trying to beat out a bunt. He gave up one unearned run in four innings and has a 0.59 ERA through three starts.

Description: Cardinals fifth starter Joe Kelly worked around six hits and four walks in 5 1/3 innings to get a 6-1 win Saturday at Pittsburgh.
Insight: Working out of jams is nothing new for Kelly -- he posted a 3.08 ERA in the last two seasons despite carrying a 1.37 WHIP. Kelly doesn't strike out many batters and his high WHIP makes him a pitcher best left on the free agent wire in mixed leagues.

Description: Joe Kelly will begin the season as the Cardinals' fifth starter, according to Jenifer Langosch of mlb.com.
Insight: Kelly pitched worse than Carlos Martinez but manager Mike Matheny decided to keep Martinez as the team's setup man. In two MLB seasons, Kelly has allowed a lot of baserunners (1.37 WHIP) but still posted a 3.08 ERA over 231 innings, including a 2.69 mark in 124 innings last season. He'll hold the spot until Jaime Garcia returns from his shoulder injury in a couple months.

Insight: Kelly quietly put together one of the lowest ERAs in the National League this season (2.69 ERA in 37 appearances). He was handed a no-decision in his only start of the Division Series (5 1/3 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 5 K's, 4 BB versus Pittsburgh in Game 3).

Description: St. Louis righthander Joe Kelly held the Cubs scoreless in his six innings of work Saturday at Wrigley Field.
Insight: Kelly is heating up. Over his last six games, he's 4-0 with a 1.57 ERA in 34 1/3 innings. Look for him to stay hot Thursday against the Braves.

Description: Cardinals manager Mike Matheny named Joe Kelly the No. 5 starter on Sunday, but he won't make a start until July 6, according to Cardinals.mlb.com.
Insight: Kelly is taking Tyler Lyons' spot in the rotation. The team will skip the No. 5 starter's next turn in the rotation and have everyone else pitch on normal rest. Kelly made 24 appearances (16 starts) as a rookie last year and went 5-7 with a 3.53 ERA and a 1.38 WHIP in 107 innings. He has posted a 4.22 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP as a long reliever this season and can be ignored in most leagues.

Description: Cardinals starter Joe Kelly turned in a quality start Wednesday against Miami, his second straight.
Insight: Kelly has kept runners from scoring despite allowing 28 hits in 21 1/3 innings this season, as his 3.38 ERA indicates. He's walked just four batters in his first four big league starts, so he's worth a look against weak-hitting opponents but he'll likely struggle against a stronger offensive club.

Description: Cardinals starter Joe Kelly will make his major league debut Sunday against Cleveland in place of Jaime Garcia, according to B.J. Rains of Fox Sports Midwest.
Insight: Kelly is a former third-round draft pick who has put up a 2.86 ERA in 72 1/3 innings at Triple-A Memphis this season. If the right-hander can swing multiple starts in the majors, he would be someone to look at in NL-only leagues, as St. Louis hurlers have a history of succeeding regardless of pedigree or past success.
