(Saturday, September 11th)

Final Score: NC State 28, UCF 21

Orlando, FL (Sports Network) - NC State forced five turnovers, one of which was a 43-yard interception return for a touchdown by C.J. Wilson, as the Wolfpack defeated the UCF Knights, 28-21, in a non-conference bout at Bright House Networks Stadium.

The interception return turned out to be the game-winning score for NC State (2-0), which had three picks and two forced fumbles. Russell Wilson threw for 105 yards and one score on 10-of-30 tosses, while Dean Haynes and Mustafa Greene each had a rushing touchdown.

Jeffrey Godfrey ran for two touchdowns on the night for UCF (1-1), gaining 53 yards on 10 carries. The backup quarterback also threw for 107 yards on 7- of-10 attempts in replacement of Rob Calabrese, who passed for 106 yards with two picks on 10-of-18 tosses.

NC State scored the only touchdown in the opening quarter as Haynes ran four yards for a score late in the frame.

The Wolfpack jumped to a 14-0 lead when Wilson completed a 26-yard touchdown pass to Darrell Davis on their first possession in the second quarter. Greene then ran for a 21-yard score on the team's next possession, giving NC State a commanding 21-0 lead.

UCF answered immediately, however, as Quincy McDuffie took the following kickoff 93 yards to paydirt, cutting the Wolfpack's advantage to 21-7 heading into halftime.

Wilson then took the interception to the house late in the third quarter as NC State improved to a 28-7 advantage.

The Knights answered back when Godfrey marched for a six-yard touchdown run on their first possession of the fourth quarter as UCF now trailed 28-14. The deficit stayed that way until Godfrey scored yet again, punching in a one-yard touchdown.

However, the Wolfpack's defense would stay strong and hold off any more attempts by UCF to tie the game as time expired.

NC State gained the victory despite putting up just 239 total yards on the night, while UCF managed 308.
