Winston-Salem, NC (Sports Network) - Riley Skinner completed 24-of-33 pass
attempts for 360 yards and four touchdowns to pace the Wake Forest Demon
Deacons in a 42-32 win over the Maryland Terrapins in an ACC battle at BB&T
Chris Givens was Skinner's favorite target, hauling in five passes for 116
yards and two scores. Josh Adams led the Wake Forest (4-2, 2-1 ACC) ground
attack, carrying the ball 13 times for 94 yards and a touchdown.
The Terrapins (2-4, 1-1) were led by quarterback Chris Turner, who completed
24-of-44 pass attempts for 307 yards and three touchdowns.
WF scored on its opening drive of the game when Adams ripped off a 48-yard
touchdown run to give the Demon Deacons a 7-0 lead.
Maryland responded on its ensuing possession, as Davin Meggett pounded his
way in from the one-yard line to tie the game.
The Demon Deacons responded on their next possession, capping an 80-yard drive
with a four-yard run by Devon Brown.
WF extended its lead to 21-7 on the last play of the first quarter, when
Skinner and Marshall Williams hooked up for a 10-yard touchdown pass.
Skinner went back to work early in the second quarter, finding Givens from 32
yards for a 28-7 advantage.
The Terrapins answered on their next drive with a 50-yard field goal by Nick
WF responded on the ensuing possession, as Skinner threw a 20-yard touchdown
strike to Andrew Parker for a 35-10 lead at the half.
Maryland opened up the second-half scoring midway through the third quarter,
when Turner found Adrian Cannon for a two-yard touchdown.
Once again the Demon Deacons responded, with a 27-yard touchdown pass from
Skinner to Givens. The two-point conversion was successful, giving WF a 42-17
Maryland got back on the board early in the fourth quarter with a 15-yard
touchdown pass from Turner to Adrian Cannon. A successful two-point conversion
made it a 42-25 game.
The Terrapins added a late touchdown pass from Turner to Torrey Smith, but it
would not be enough as WF held on for the 42-32 victory.
WF dominated the contest in every aspect, outgaining the Terrapins 516-369,
including a 156-62 advantage on the ground.
