NCAA Game Summary - Niagara at Iona

New Rochelle, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Tre Bowman led the way with 23 points, as the Iona Gaels Niagara defeated the Niagara Purple Eagles, 118-92, in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at the Hynes Center.
Seven players scored in double-figures for the Gaels (6-6, 3-0 MAAC), including A.J. English with 18, David Laury and Sean Armand with 17 each, Mike Poole and Ryden Hines with 12 each and Tavon Sledge with 10. Armand also finished with eight assists.
For the Purple Eagles (4-10, 1-3) Ramone Snowden led the team with 23 points, while Antoine Mason added 22 points and Tahjere McCall chipped in with 10.
Iona was red-hot to start the game, knocking down 75 percent of its field goal tries and 8-of-12 from beyond the arc, as the Gaels took the big lead at halftime, 62-36. Niagara shot 41.9 percent in the first half but made just one of its eight attempts from 3-point range.
After intermission, the Gaels cooled off a bit, but still hit on 53.3 percent of their shots from the floor, including 6-of-14 from 3-point distance. The Purple Eagles improved their shooting in the second half to 47.7 percent and made 5-of-12 of their 3-point tries. Iona pushed its lead to as many 37 in the rout, as it coasted to victory and set a school record for points in a non- overtime game.
Iona finished with 34 assists, also a school record for assists in a non- overtime game. Niagara did have a 56-45 advantage in points in the paint.
