NCAA Game Summary - Temple at South Florida

(Saturday, March 8th)

Final Score: Temple 66, South Florida 65

Tampa, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Quenton DeCosey's layup at the buzzer lifted the Temple Owls to a thrilling 66-65 win over the South Florida Bulls in the regular-season finale in the American Athletic Conference for both schools at the Sun Dome.

DeCosey finished with 18 points and seven rebounds for the Owls (9-21, 4-14 AAC) as they won their final two games of the season, the first time they've managed to post back-to-back victories since early December. Dalton Pepper delivered a team-best 20 points and eight rebounds for Temple, followed by Will Cummings with 14 points and eight assists for the visitors.

The Bulls (12-19, 3-15) were led by Corey Allen Jr. with 18 points and five assists, Martino Brock chipped in 16 points and Victor Rudd 13 and eight boards as the team's losing streak was extended to eight straight.

Both teams shot under 40 percent from the floor in the first half and with Temple converting only 10-of-29 from the field, including 2-of-6 behind the 3- point line, the visitors fell behind by seven at the break, 33-26. USF allowed the Owls to stick around by virtue of shooting only 5-of-12 at the free-throw line over the first 20 minutes of action.

In the second half Temple turned it around with an impressive 57.7 percent effort from the floor and at the same time holding the Bulls to 39.4 percent.

Trailing by one, 65-64, with 4.6 seconds remaining on the clock, the Owls were able to get the ball inbounds and up to DeCosey on the right wing and while he appeared to have traveled before making his move to the basket, he was able to float in and lay the ball off the glass just before time expired.

Temple, which led by as many as five in the opening minutes of the meeting, survived 16 turnovers by claiming a 43-33 advantage on the glass.
