Moon Township, PA (Sports Network) - Mike McFadden and Velton Jones each scored 15 points to lead the Robert Morris Colonials over the Cleveland State Vikings, 71-62, in the second round of consolation games of the 2012 NIT Season Tip-Off at the Sewall Center.
For the Colonials (3-3), Lucky Jones added 13 points and eight rebounds.
Charlie Lee led all scorers with 20 points for the Vikings (4-2), shooting 5- of-7 behind the three-point line and adding a team-best five assists, while Anton Grady finished with 16 points, seven boards and four steals.
RMU came out of the gate hot in the first half, connecting on 52.4 percent of its field goal attempts, as it took a 28-24 advantage into the break. Cleveland State shot just 36 percent, but kept the contest close by hitting 4- of-10 on its attempts from three-point range.
The Vikings found their stroke in the second half, shooting 56 percent from the field and 4-of-9 from beyond the arc. The Colonials cooled off a bit but still shot 45.8 percent from the floor and outscored the Vikings 18-8 from the free-throw line after halftime. After leading by just four with little over two minutes to play, the Colonials scored the next four points to give themselves a cushion and hold on for the victory.
The Colonials scored 20 points off 19 Viking turnovers. The Colonials also outscored the Vikings 11-2 in second chance points.
