Charlottesville, VA (Sports Network) - Roy Devyn Marble scored 24 points as the Iowa Hawkeyes posted a 75-64 win over the Virginia Cavaliers in the quarterfinals of the NIT at John Paul Jones Arena.
Marble made just 1-of-5 shots behind the 3-point line on the night, but was perfect at the free-throw line (7-of-7) as the Hawkeyes (24-12) picked up the road victory. Zach McCabe and Adam Woodbury both tallied 10 points, the latter adding a game-high eight rebounds as well.
The Cavalier (23-12) were paced by Justin Anderson who dropped in 24 points to go along with six rebounds, five blocked shots and three steals. Mike Tobey responded with 15 points and six boards off the bench, followed by Joe Harris with 11 points as the Cavs saw their win streak at JPJ Arena snapped at 19 in a row.
Midway through the first half Iowa found itself ahead by double digits, 21-11, but at the break the visitors were leading by just three points, 31-28. Virginia kept it close by converting 6-of-11 behind the 3-point line through the first 20 minutes of action.
After shooting just 38.5 percent from the floor in the first period, the Cavs again had their issues from the field in the second half. The team did manage to make good on 16-of-20 at the free-throw line, but at the same time the Hawkeyes were a perfect 14-of-14 at the charity stripe in order to secure the double-digit win.
Iowa overcame 15 turnovers by connecting on 15-of-15 at the free-throw line and 8-of-17 shots beyond the arc on the night.
With the victory the Hawkeyes will now take on Maryland in the semifinals at Madison Square Garden on April 2 after the Terrapins defeated Alabama on Tuesday night, 58-57.
