Description: ESPN's Adam Schefter doesn't expect Tampa Bay left guard Carl Nicks to play Sunday versus the Eagles.
Insight: Nicks has had a recurrence of a staph infection that caused him to miss time earlier in the season. Nicks is one of three Buccaneers currently dealing with MRSA.

Description: Buccaneers left guard Carl Nicks (toe) will miss Sunday's game against the Jets.
Insight: Nicks had a staph infection during the preseason and is still recovering. One of the top left guards in football, Nicks missed nine games last season with a toe injury but it didn't prevent Doug Martin from having a fantastic season.

Insight: Nicks dealt with toe problems last season also. We wouldn't expect him to play Week 1 against the Jets.

Description: The Buccaneers placed G Carl Nicks on injured reserve with a toe injury.
Insight: Nicks is an elite run-blocking guard so this injury could greatly impact Doug Martin's fantasy value. Martin has rushed for 296 yards with 171 receiving yards and three total touchdowns the last three games.

Description: Carl Nicks has signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The deal will pay Nicks $47.5 million over the next five years.
Insight: Nicks was one of the most sought-after free agents on the market and this contract will make him the highest-paid guard in the NFL. Josh Freeman was sacked almost twice a game last year so the addition of Nicks should at least help Freeman stay on his feet more often in 2012.
