Atlanta, GA (SportsNetwork.com) -
The Atlanta Braves acquired veteran catcher Ryan Doumit in a trade with Minnesota on Wednesday, with pitching prospect Sean Gilmartin going to the Twins in the two-player swap.
A nine-year veteran in the majors, Doumit is a .268 career hitter with 99 home runs and 396 RBI over 880 total games. The switch-hitter hit .247 with 14 homers and 55 RBI in 135 games for the Twins last season.
Doumit provides the Braves a third catcher to share time with Evan Gattis and Gerald Laird and a proven bat off the bench, as he possesses a .262 average as a pinch-hitter. The 32-year-old also offers versatility, having started 105 games in the outfield and 32 at first base during his previous stops with the Twins and Pittsburgh Pirates.
