Radwanska tops Zvonareva to win in Carlsbad

Carlsbad, CA (Sports Network) - Poland's Agnieszka Radwanska beat top-seeded Russian Vera Zvonareva in straight sets Sunday to win the $721,000 Mercury Insurance Open.

Radwanska, the No. 3 seed and runner-up last year, captured her fifth career WTA title with a 6-3, 6-4 win that took just over 79 minutes.

"I really wanted to win this tournament so I was really focused from the beginning. Winning a tournament with a lot of great matches against top players is very special," Radwanska said.

Zvonareva, who was chasing her 13th career win, had a nine-match winning streak snapped.

Radwanska saved two break points in the match and collected $111,000 for the victory. Zvonareva earned $57,350 for second place.

"There were a few moments I could have gotten back into the match and had some chances to change it around, but maybe I took too much risk and made some errors," Zvonareva said. "When Agnieszka's playing well, if you make mistakes, it's tough to win the match."
