Petrova takes Citi Open final

College Park, MD (Sports Network) - Russia's Nadia Petrova defeated Israel's Shahar Peer in Sunday's final of the Citi Open.

The two top seeds battled through a hard-fought first set, but Petrova converted on all three break chances in the second set to take a 7-5, 6-2 victory.

The 29-year-old converted on 5-of-8 break chances throughout the match and used seven aces to earn her first WTA title since 2008.

Petrova took home $37,000 with the victory.
