Medina Garrigues wins at Palermo for fifth time

Palermo, Italy (Sports Network) - Spain's Anabel Medina Garrigues continued her dominance in Palermo with a straight set win over Polona Hercog in the final of the $220,000 Palermo International tennis event on Sunday.

Medina Garrigues has now won 11 WTA titles in her career with five of those coming at this city on the coast of Sicily.

The fifth-seeded 29-year-old had no problems on Sunday in a 6-3, 6-2 win over seventh-seeded Polona Hercog of Slovenia.

She fired one ace and won 62 percent of her first-serve points to win here for the first time since 2006. She also took this tournament in 2001, 2004 and 2005.

The 20-year-old Hercog was seeking her second straight title as she was last week's clay-court champion in Bastad.

Medina Garrigues took home $37,000 with the win in her first-ever match against Hercog.
