Birmingham, England (Sports Network) - Former world No. 1 Ana Ivanovic was an easy third-round winner Thursday at the $220,000 Aegon Classic, a grass-court Wimbledon tuneup.
The second-seeded Ivanovic blew past 13th-seeded Canadian Rebecca Marino 6-3, 6-2 in just under an hour at Edgbaston Priory Club.
The former French Open champion will meet Croat Mirjana Lucic in Friday's quarterfinals.
Ivanovic was joined in the round of eight by third-seeded Peng Shuai and fourth-seeded Daniela Hantuchova, as the Chinese Peng handled Britain's Heather Watson 7-6 (7-1), 6-1, while the Slovakian Hantuchova humbled 16th- seeded Russian Alla Kudryavtseva 6-4, 6-2 on Day 4.
Up next for Peng will be New Zealand's Marina Erakovic, while Hantuchova will face American Alison Riske. Erakovic upset seventh-seeded Italian Sara Errani 5-7, 6-4, 6-3, while the 20-year-old Riske knocked out eighth-seeded Frenchwoman Aravane Rezai 7-5, 6-7 (6-8), 6-2.
In other third-round action involving a seed, No. 14 Magdalena Rybarikova overcame Russian qualifier Arina Rodionova 6-7 (1-7), 6-0, 6-1. Rybarikova will encounter German Sabine Lisicki here on Friday.
Two other third-rounders saw Lisicki top Austrian Tamira Paszek 7-6 (7-1), 6-4 and the aforementioned Lucic dismiss French Open doubles champion Andrea Hlavackova 6-2, 7-6 (7-4).
The 2011 Birmingham titlist will claim $37,000.
