Final Score: Toronto FC 4, D.C. United 1
Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Toronto FC tallied twice in a span of four second-half minutes on Saturday to snap an eight-match winless run and claim a 4-1 victory over D.C. United at BMO Field.
Coming into the match riding a seven-match winless streak, D.C. United was on the front foot early on and grabbed the lead on the quarter-hour when Jared Jeffrey beat TFC goalkeeper Joe Bendik with a well-placed long-range strike.
But nine minutes later Toronto FC equalized when Darel Russell brought a cross form Bobby Convey down off his chest and ripped a volley into the bottom left corner on the turn to put the sides on level terms at the break.
Toronto seized firm control of the contest in the second half as they took the lead in the 67th minute when defender Mark Bloom sent a cross into the box for an unmarked Bright Dike to volley home.
Four minutes later the hosts made it 3-1 when Alvaro Rey was put through on the right wing and sent a shot on target that was deflected into the net by DC defender Conor Shanosky for the own goal.
TFC finished the rout three minutes from time when Justin Braun slid it through for Rey to fire past Wills with a left-footed strike.
The win was just Toronto's fifth of the season and they improve to 26 points, while United remains in the basement of the East with 15 points and is winless in nine consecutive league matches.
