Final Score: Colorado 3, Montreal 2
Commerce City, CO (Sports Network) - Jaime Castrillon scored the match-winner in the 83rd minute as the short-handed Colorado Rapids escaped with a 3-2 win over the Montreal Impact on Saturday at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.
The match was tied at 2-2 early in the second half when Rapids defender Tyrone Marshall was sent off for his second yellow card, but Castrillon rescued a win when he headed home the deciding goal from just off the goal line.
Castrillon scored the goal off an odd play with seven minutes left as Montreal goalkeeper Greg Sutton tipped a ball onto the crossbar that bounced once, then skipped back into play.
Two Impact players were under the ball, but Castrillon was able to jump to get to it before it dropped low enough for them to clear, and Colorado (6-6-1) was able to secure its fourth win in six home matches this season.
Montreal (3-7-3) lost for the sixth time in eight road fixtures, but it almost got away with a point.
Patrice Bernier gave the Impact the early lead when Felipe Martins sent a pass into space on the left side of the area, and Bernier finished with a chip shot to the far post for his second goal of the season.
Jeff Larentowicz pulled the goal back in the 18th from the penalty spot, and a goal from Drew Moor tied the match six minutes before halftime as he deposited a free kick from Martin Rivero inside the top corner.
Rookie Andrew Wenger pulled Montreal level just two minutes after halftime off an assist from Bernier as he slotted low to the bottom right to bag the second goal of his young career.
When Marshall received his second yellow just after the hour mark, the Impact were in position to at least earn one point, but Castrillon notched his fourth goal of the season as Colorado pulled out an important home win.
Colorado will be off until June 16 when it visits Vancouver Whitecaps FC, and Montreal opens Saputo Stadium on June 16 when it hosts Seattle Sounders FC.
