Cahill heads New York into postseason

Harrison, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - It took until the final touch of the game, but Tim Cahill's header was enough to help Red Bull New York earn a 2-2 draw with the New England Revolution, a result that clinches a postseason berth for New York.

Fabian Espindola put New York in front after 14 minutes when he took advantage of a turnover from Scott Caldwell to fire his team in front.

Espindola then clipped the post with a header in the 25th before New England goalkeeper Matt Reis produced a fine stop on Thierry Henry early in the second half to keep his team within a goal.

The Revs waited until the final 10 minutes to set up a dramatic ending when Saer Sene's cross was handled by New York defender Jamison Olave inside his own penalty area, allowing Lee Nguyen to step to the spot and beat goalkeeper Luis Robles in the 85th.

New England's Andy Dorman was sent off just a minute later for a poor challenge on Eric Alexander, but the visitors thought they had snatched the win in stoppage time when Diego Fagundez took advantage of a poor pass from New York's David Carney to beat Robles.

However, the drama went down to the final kick of the game as the ball was played into the New England box and Cahill rose up to head home the equalizer, sending New York to the playoffs.
