Amarikwa helps Chicago snatch a point in Salt Lake
Sandy, UT (Sports Network) - The Chicago Fire stole a point at Real Salt Lake on Saturday as Quincy Amarikwa scored in the 84th minute of a 1-1 draw between the two sides.
Despite being badly outplayed for much of the match, the Fire found themselves down just one goal in the final 10 minutes due in large part to the play of goalkeeper Sean Johnson.
And the visitors made the most of a free kick six minutes from time when Jalil Anibaba's cross was nodded down by Austin Berry for Amarikwa, who scored on an acrobatic volley from seven yards.
Salt Lake had just opened the scoring in the 78th minute through substitute Alvaro Saborio, but had to settle for a frustrating point.
A scoreless first half was due mostly to the play of Johnson, who was forced to make saves on Kyle Beckerman and Ned Grabavoy before a diving stop on a good chance from Robbie Findley.
The Chicago net continued to come under attack as Findley headed wide from six yards early in the second half.
Javier Morales was next to go close in the 76th minute when his free kick was tipped onto the crossbar by Johnson.
Saborio finally broke the deadlock 12 minutes from time when he headed home Grabavoy's cross.
However, Amarikwa made one of Chicago's only shots on goal count to help his side snap a three-match losing streak.
