Rosell helps Sporting complete comeback vs. TFC
Kansas City, KS (Sports Network) - Oriol Rosell scored in his second-ever Major League Soccer appearance, notching a late winner to help Sporting Kansas City come from behind to claim a 2-1 win over Toronto FC at Livestrong Sporting Park on Saturday.
Kansas City dominated the opening period, but the visitors grabbed the lead against the run of the play in the 44th minute when Richard Eckersley's ball over the top of the Sporting defense was controlled and calmly slotted home by Ryan Johnson.
The home side drew level at the hour-mark when Graham Zusi's set piece was cleared to the edge of the box. Paulo Nagamura was arriving to smash a bouncing shot over the head of Toronto goalkeeper Freddy Hall.
Sporting continued to pressure but the final blow did not come until the 87th minute. Chance Myers found space on the right flank and crossed a ball to the top of the penalty area where Rosell was waiting to tuck a side-footed volley into the corner.
The result helps Sporting (15-7-5) improve to 50 points on the season. The club sits tied with the San Jose Earthquakes for the lead in the race for the MLS Supporters' Shield, though the Western Conference club has a game in hand.
Toronto (5-16-6) remains bottom of the East with 21 points as its winless run extends to seven games.
