Jimenez leads America past Queretaro

Mexico City, Mexico (Sports Network) - A goal in each half from Raul Jimenez propelled America to a 3-0 win over Queretaro, giving the club four wins from its first five matches this season.

Jimenez netted the opening goal after 15 minutes and found the net for a second time in the 70th, giving him four goals already this season.

Cristian Benitez capped the scoring from the penalty spot two minutes from time, helping America move to within one point of leaders Tigres and Tijuana, who played to a 2-2 draw over the weekend.

Tigres took a 2-1 lead into the final 25 minutes of the contest after two goals from Lucas Lobos, only for Duvier Riascos to tally the equalizer in the 74th minute for the defending champions.

Mariano Pavone netted a brace for Cruz Azul but his side was held to a 2-2 draw at Leon, while Abraham Carreno scored the lone goal for Pachuca in a 1-0 home win against Toluca.

The only contest on Friday saw Atlas hold off Jaguares, 2-1, San Luis and Guadalajara finished in a 1-1 draw, and Puebla captured its second win of the season by topping Morelia, 3-1.

UNAM had to settle for a 0-0 draw against Santos after Efrain Velarde missed a first-half penalty kick, while Atlante moved into the middle of the table by securing a 3-1 home triumph against Monterrey.
