Description: Cincinnati starter Johnny Cueto was activated from the DL on Monday.
Insight: Cueto (1-0, 2.60 ERA) draws the start Monday against New York. He went seven innings and gave up one run in his only start against the Mets last season.

5/15/2013 5:47:00 PM
Description: Reds starter Johnny Cueto (lat, oblique) will rejoin the Reds' rotation Monday against the Mets, according to John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer.
Insight: Cueto was placed on the disabled list on April 15 with a strained right lat and started feeling oblique soreness during his recovery. Cueto will be taking Mike Leake's turn in the rotation Monday, but the team hasn't decided if Leake or Tony Cingrani will be demoted.

5/13/2013 10:44:00 AM
Description: Reds starter Johnny Cueto (lat, oblique) is expected to throw an 80-pitching outing on Tuesday in the next step toward his return to the Reds starting rotation.
Insight: Cueto's earliest return would be May 19 if everything goes well in his next start. It will be interesting to see what happens to youngster Tony Cingrani (2-0, 2.89 ERA) when Cueto does return to the rotation.

5/9/2013 10:02:00 PM
Description: Reds starter Johnny Cueto (lat, oblique) threw 50 pitches (36 strikes) in a rehab start Thursday, according to John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer.
Insight: Cueto is on the DL with a strained right lat, and he had his rehab stint pushed back earlier this month when he experienced oblique soreness. He'll need one more rehab start to get his pitch count up.

Description: Reds starter Johnny Cueto's soreness is actually in his right oblique. SOURCE: Mark Sheldon, MLB.com
Insight: Cueto is on the DL with a strained right lat, but he had his rehab start Friday canceled after feeling soreness in the same oblique he injured during the playoffs last year. He'll be reevaluated Monday.

5/3/2013 11:37:00 AM
Description: Reds starter Johnny Cueto (lat) was scratched from his reha start Friday due to soreness discovered during Thursday's exam. SOURCE: John Fay, Cincinnati Enquirer.
Insight: This setback, even if it's minor, will give rookie Tony Cingrani more time to shine. Cingrani is 2-0 with a 1.50 ERA and a 28/4 K/BB in 18 innings this season.

4/29/2013 7:57:00 PM
Description: Reds starter Johnny Cueto (lat) threw a 45-pitch bullpen session Monday and felt "no pain." SOURCE: Mark Sheldon, MLB.com
Insight: Cueto threw all of his pitches during the session and could make a minor league rehab start as his next step in his recovery. Rookie Tony Cingrani has gone 2-0 with a 1.50 ERA, a 0.89 WHIP and 28 strikeouts in 18 innings while filling in for Cueto and could eventually take Mike Leake's rotation spot.

4/15/2013 3:46:00 PM
Description: As expected, Reds starter Johnny Cueto has been placed on the disabled list with a lat strain.
Insight: Cueto left Saturday's start in the fifth inning with the injury. Cincinnati will likely call up Tony Cingrani (1-0, 0.00 ERA in three starts at Louisville) to replace him in the rotation.

4/14/2013 6:31:00 PM
Description: Sources have told Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports that Reds starter Johnny Cueto will be placed on the disabled list with a lat strain.
Insight: Cueto left Saturday's start in the fifth inning with the injury. Cincinnati will call up someone to replace him in the rotation.

4/14/2013 10:16:00 AM
Description: Reds ace Johnny Cueto is headed back to Cincinnati to have his arm looked at. He left Saturday's start after feeling pain in his right triceps. SOURCE: John Fay, Cincinnati Enquirer
Insight: The injury shouldn't have any long-term effect on Cueto but it's looking like he probably won't make his next start Thursday against the Marlins. Look for Cincinnati to call someone up from Triple-A if Cueto ends up on the DL.

4/13/2013 9:09:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati righthander Johnny Cueto left Saturday's game against Pittsburgh because of an arm injury.
Insight: He exited in the fifth after giving up two hits and one run in 4 1/3 innings. It's unclear whether or not Cueto will be able to make his next start Thursday against Miami.

4/1/2013 9:05:00 PM
Description: Reds starter Johnny Cueto was dominant Monday in the season opener against Los Angeles.
Insight: Cueto allowed three hits and one earned run in seven innings of work. Over that span, he struck out nine hitters while allowing just two walks. If Cueto can keep this up, he should be a Cy Young candidate just like he was in 2012.

10/10/2012 3:37:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati ace Johnny Cueto has been taken off of the team's NLDS roster. Cueto suffered a strained oblique during his start Saturday in Game 1.
Insight: League rules prohibit Cueto from pitching for the Reds again until the World Series (if they make it that far), so obviously this injury is serious. Mike Leake has been added to the roster in Cueto's place and will start Game 4 Wednesday against San Francisco.

10/9/2012 3:45:00 PM
Description: According to John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer, Reds starter Johnny Cueto has a mild oblique strain.
Insight: This injury is usually slow healing and we can't imagine he'll be ready to pitch again in this series.

10/8/2012 12:00:00 PM
Description: Reds starter Johnny Cueto (back) will not start Game 3 of the NLDS, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. Homer Bailey will start the game instead.
Insight: Cueto left his Game 1 start in the first inning due to back spasms. The Reds have a 2-0 lead over the Giants and will head to Cincinnati for three straight close-out games at the Great American Ballpark. Bailey will carry a 5.16 home ERA into the Game 3 start.

10/7/2012 10:04:00 AM
Description: Reds starter Johnny Cueto hopes to be ready to start Game 3 of the NLDS against the Giants after leaving Game 1 in the first inning with back pain.
Insight: Cueto (19-9, 2.78 ERA) only faced one batter before having to exit with back spasms but the Reds won Game 1 anyway. Projected Game 3 starter Mat Latos followed winning pitcher Sam LeCure with four innings of one-run ball, so Game 3 now needs a starter on the Reds side. Cueto could be that guy if his back holds up. He said his back felt much better after the game, and it's possible Cueto could gut out a Game 3 start if he has a cortisone shot.

10/3/2012 5:46:00 PM
Description: The Reds have announced their starting rotation for their first round series versus San Francisco. Johnny Cueto will start Game 1 with Bronson Arroyo taking the mound in Game 2. Mat Latos will get the nod in Game 3.
Insight: Cueto (19-9, 2.78 ERA) experienced mixed results in his only start against the Giants this year. In six innings, he allowed three runs (two of them earned) and six hits, walking four and striking out three. Cueto took the loss in his last postseason start two years ago when the Reds were swept by the Phillies in the first round.

9/20/2012 7:07:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati starter Johnny Cueto won his first game since Aug. 28 and 18th of the season with six scoreless innings against Chicago Thursday.
Insight: Cueto walked four and allowed five hits with just two strikeouts but he was able to keep the Cubs off the scoreboard to stop his losing streak at three starts.

Hot8/18/2012 10:01:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati starter Johnny Cueto tied for the major league lead and took the NL lead in victories Saturday against the Cubs. Cueto cruised through eight innings, allowing two runs on three hits, striking out eight and walking none.
Insight: Cueto may have broken out with a 2.31 ERA in 24 starts last season, but 2012 is the right-hander's career year. Cueto is now 16-6 with a 2.44 ERA and a 135/37 K/BB ratio in 169 2/3 innings this season.

Hot7/22/2012 5:01:00 PM
