Browns bring back K Cundiff

Berea, OH (Sports Network) - The Cleveland Browns on Tuesday agreed to terms on a contract with kicker Billy Cundiff.

No terms of the deal were disclosed by the club, but the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported it is a one-year pact.

The 33-year-old makes his return to the shores of Lake Erie, after spending part of the 2009 season there, and connecting on all six field-goal attempts along with all four extra-point tries in five games while subbing for an injured Phil Dawson.

Cundiff spent 2012 with the Redskins, making just 7-of-12 field goals and 17- of-17 PATs in five appearances. He also spent time in camp with the New York Jets this season but was released last week.

He'll have to do better than that to replace 14-year veteran Dawson, who departed Cleveland for San Francisco as the franchise's all-time leader in made field goals and second on the all-time scoring list.

To clear a roster spot for Cundiff, the Browns placed guard Jason Pinkston on the injured reserve/designated to return list. The third-year pro is currently battling a high left ankle sprain he sustained in the team's second preseason game, an Aug. 15 matchup against Detroit.

Pinkston, a 16-game starter at left guard for Cleveland as a rookie in 2001 who missed most of last season with a blood clot in his lung, will be eligible to practice after Week 6. He can return for the Browns' game against Baltimore on Nov. 3 at the earliest.
