Cavs' Waiters sidelined with knee problem

Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) - The Cleveland Cavaliers announced Tuesday that guard Dion Waiters is expected to miss a week with a knee injury the rookie sustained in the team's most recent outing.

Waiters exited Monday's 111-90 loss to Indiana during the first half due to a sore left knee. An MRI performed Tuesday revealed a small fragment of loose cartilage in the knee.

The 21-year-old will undergo a period of rest and treatment over the coming week, though the team did state that a possible arthroscopic procedure may be necessary if Waiters' condition does not improve following the evaluation.

Cleveland is already without its two top players in All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving and center Anderson Varejao. Irving is currently sidelined indefinitely with a shoulder injury, while Varejao was ruled out for the season in January after experiencing a blood clot in his lung.

Waiters' 14.7 points-per-game scoring average ranks second only to Irving among Cleveland players, with the 2012 No. 4 overall pick also averaging 3.0 assists and 2.4 rebounds through 57 games.
