Description: Righthander Carlos Zambrano has signed a minor league contract with the Philadelphia Phillies.
Insight: Zambrano was currently pitching in the Independent Atlantic League with the Long Island Ducks. With Roy Halladay on the shelf for at least the next three months, it makes sense for the Phillies to look for another starter. There was a time when Zambrano was a solid fantasy contributor but that time was 2004-2007.

Description: Righthander Carlos Zambrano will resume his professional baseball career with the Long Island Ducks of the Atlantic League. SOURCE: Chris Cotillo, CLNS Radio
Insight: Zambrano (7-10, 4.49 ERA in 35 games for Miami in 2012) didn't get any big league offers this winter so he'll have to settle for a minor league gig for now. He'll turn 32 in June.

Description: Marlins starter Carlos Zambrano has been moved to the Marlins' bullpen, according to David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Wade LeBlanc will take his spot in the rotation.
Insight: Zambrano had a 1.96 ERA in his first 55 innings with the Marlins this season, but he's recorded a 6.90 ERA with a 42/45 K/BB ratio in 60 innings since. LeBlanc may just be keeping a rotation spot warm for newly acquired pitching prospect Justin Turner.

Description: Marlins starter Carlos Zambrano gave up four runs on three hits in two innings Friday against Tampa Bay. Zambrano walked six and struck out three.
Insight: Zambrano left his last start with lower back tightness, and he was a mess Friday on one extra day of rest. Over his last two starts, Zambrano has given up nine earned runs on eight hits and nine walks in just 4 1/3 innings. Hopefully Big Z can prevent his season from imploding in his next start.

Description: Despite being forced to leave Saturday night's game early because of a stiff back, Marlins starter Carlos Zambrano is still in line to start next Friday's game against Tampa Bay.
Insight: Zambrano says he is already feeling improvement in his back and should be fine by Friday. The Miami righthander had a tough outing Saturday (2.1 IP, 5 H, 7 ER, 3 BBs) but overall, he's been solid in 2012 (4-4, 3.55 ERA).
6/9/2012 10:48:00 PM
Description: Marlins starter Carlos Zambrano left Saturday's game after just 2.1 innings because of lower back stiffness.
Insight: Zambrano (4-4, 3.55 ERA) was getting crushed by the Rays before his exit (five hits, seven runs, three walks allowed on 57 pitches). We're not sure if the bad outing was a result of his back woes or if he was just having an off game. We should know more on Zambrano's status soon but for now, consider the Miami righthander day-to-day.

Description: Carlos Zambrano picked up his second straight win on Sunday against the Phillies. Zambrano held Philadelphia to one run on four hits in 7 2/3 innings. He walked two and struck out seven.
Insight: Zambrano (4-3) has enjoyed a comeback season with the Marlins. The right-hander has a 2.81 ERA and an impressive 1.11 WHIP. He's won both of his starts since he allowed seven runs in five innings against Colorado on May 23.
5/23/2012 10:57:00 PM
Description: Carlos Zambrano had his worst outing of the season on Wednesday against the Rockies. Zambrano gave up seven runs on five hits in five innings. The Marlins RHP walked three and struck out three.
Insight: Zambrano was due for one of these meltdowns. He came in having allowed two earned runs or less in six of his eight starts and no more than four runs in any of his eight turns this year. Zambrano's xFIP prior to Wednesday was nearly two runs higher than his actual ERA, so you might want to shop him around before he has a stat correction.

Description: Carlos Zambrano gave up two runs (one earned) on five hits in seven innings against the Mets on Sunday. Zambrano walked three and struck out seven.
Insight: Big Z is pitching better than he has in years, but he only has one win to show for it, as Heath Bell has blown several of his potential victories. Zambrano didn't leave it up to the bullpen in his last start, as the right-hander tossed a complete game three-hit shutout against the Astros to pick up his first win of the year. On the season, Zambrano has a 1.88 ERA, a 1.04 WHIP and 39 strikeouts in 48 innings.
5/3/2012 9:33:00 AM
Description: Carlos Zambrano pitched brilliantly against San Francisco on Wednesday night. The righty scattered five soft hits and three walks in seven shutout innings. However, Heath Bell once again lost the lead in the ninth.
Insight: Despite another excellent start, Zambrano remains winless. Nobody has been hurt more by Bell's failures than Zambrano, as the closer has blown three potential wins for Zambrano already this season. Aside from that, Zambrano's move to Miami has given him a shot of new life. He's pitched to a 2.53 ERA and 1.19 WHIP over five starts.
4/20/2012 9:33:00 PM
Description: Carlos Zambrano twirled a gem against Washington on Friday, but he came up short against Ross Detwiler. Zambrano threw seven innings and gave up one run on two hits with eight strikeouts.
Insight: Zambrano had no walks after he delievered eight base on balls in his first 12 innings this season. Zambrano has given up just 10 hits in 19 innings this season but has yet to pick up a win in three starts thanks to two blown saves by Heath Bell and Detwiler's strong start on Friday.
4/14/2012 10:45:00 PM
Description: Carlos Zambrano gave up one run in six innings while striking out four.
Insight: Zambrano is going to be a WHIP killer this year. Even though he only gave up four hits in six innings, he compounded that with six walks. Despite his wildness, Zambrano could very well be 2-0 right now, but Heath Bell has blown both of his wins in the ninth.

Description: Carlos Zambrano threw a bullpen session on Wednesday. He is still recovering from lower back soreness. SOURCE: Chicago Tribune
Insight: If Zambrano doesn't have any setbacks, he should return shortly after the All-Star break. His numbers are good enough to use him in most mixed leagues.
7/1/2011 1:41:00 PM
Description: The Chicago Cubs have placed SP Carlos Zambrano on the 15-day disabled list because of soreness in his lower back and activated reliever Kerry Wood.
Insight: Zambrano showed up for Thursday's start against San Francisco in a lot of pain and left to boos in the second inning trailing 1-0. The Cubs ultimately did win that game but it cost them Zambrano on the hill for 15 days. Zambrano was expected to make two more starts before the All-Star break.
5/4/2011 8:07:00 PM
Description: Carols Zambrano allowed only one run over eight inning in Wednesdays win over the Dodgers.
Insight: Zambrano looked sharp in the outing, but he's hit or miss at this point. Wait until he shows some consistency before rostering him.
4/19/2011 6:47:00 AM
Description: Cubs SP Carlos Zambrano tossed 8 shutout innings, giving up just 3 hits and walking 1, taking a no decision as the Cubs won in extra innings; Zambrano struck out 10 Padres in the contest.
Insight: This was, b far, Zambrano's best start of 2011 and he deserved a better fate than the no decision. Keep in mind it did come against the weaker hitting Padres, so don't rush to make him one of your top guys in a deeper mixed league.
4/2/2011 5:20:00 PM
Description: Carlos Zambrano was removed from Saturday's game due to a cramp in his pitching hand. SOURCE: Carrie Muskat on Twitter
Insight: His pitch count was at 100 anyway and this shouldn't interfere with his next start. Just monitor this situation in case it gets more serious.
3/28/2011 5:12:00 PM
Description: Carlos Zambrano walked five batters in five innings today against Cleveland and was lucky that only three of them turned into earned runs.
Insight: Zambrano is starting to look like he may never live up to his huge contract and the Cubs pitching staff looks out of sorts at the moment.
3/14/2011 6:51:00 AM
Description: After allowing one run over five innings yesterday, Carlos Zambrano's spring training ERA is 1.38.
Insight: It sure looks like Zambrano is back in the mix of trusted fantasy starters for the 2011 season after his debacle in 2010. He isn't any elite option but he can pitch like one when he gets hot and he has always been a streaky pitcher.
