A's down Red Sox in 10 innings
Boston, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - Yoenis Cespedes' infield single in the 10th inning helped the Oakland Athletics salvage the final game of a three-game set against the Boston Red Sox with a 3-2 decision on Sunday at Fenway Park.
With the bases loaded and two outs in the 10th, Cespedes poked a dribbler down the third-base line. Will Middlebrooks attempted to make the play on the slow roller, but his throw wasn't in time as Jed Lowrie crossed home for the deciding run.
Jim Johnson (3-2) recorded the final two outs of the ninth and worked around a leadoff single from Middlebrooks in the 10th to earn the win.
Cespedes finished 2-for-5 with two RBI and Brandon Moss also collected two hits with an RBI in the win.
Chris Capuano (1-1) took the loss after loading the bases in the 10th and Burke Badenhop relieved him with two outs. Badenhop got Cespedes down 0-2 in the count and unleashed a sinker on the outside corner that was tapped down the line.
A.J. Pierzynski hit his third homer of the season and Grady Sizemore went 2- for-2 with and RBI before being removed for Jonny Gomes in the seventh.
