Charleston, SC (SportsNetwork.com) - Devon Saddler netted 24 points as the Delaware Blue Hens clinched the Colonial Athletic Association regular season title with an 89-86 victory over the College of Charleston Cougars at TD Arena.
Carl Baptiste contributed 21 points and six rebounds for the Blue Hens (22-9, 14-2 CAA), while Jarvis Threatt tallied 13 points, 13 assists, six boards and five steals. Davon Usher finished with 16 points and eight rebounds. Kyle Anderson netted 11 points for Delaware, which had never won the CAA regular season crown since joining the league in 2001.
For the College of Charleston (14-17, 6-10), Canyon Barry hit on 7-of-13 shots from the floor for a game-high 27 points. Nori Johnson and Willis Hall scored 13 points apiece, while Anthony Stitt had 11 points.
The Cougars took a 45-39 lead into the intermission after they connected on 45.2 percent of their field goal attempts and converted 12-of-16 shots at the charity stripe in the opening period. Delaware hit on 5-of-12 tries from beyond the arc in the first half.
The Blue Hens went on a 12-4 run to claim an 81-74 lead with 2:52 left to play. Charleston missed four out of its five shots from the floor over the final two minutes of play before Barry knocked down a 3-pointer as time expired. Delaware sank 15-of-19 attempts at the free-throw line after the break.
The Blue Hens outscored the hosts, 36-20, in the paint and also, 17-3, in points off turnovers.
