Kent, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Darren Goodson put up a team-high 12 points and drained the game-winning 3-pointer with three seconds left, as the Kent State Golden Flashes outlasted the Akron Zips, 60-57, in a Mid-American Conference showdown at the M.A.C. Center.
Goodson shot 5-of-9 from the field for Kent State (12-9, 3-5 MAC), which snapped a three-game losing streak. No one else scored in double figures for the Golden Flashes, but all 10 players who saw the floor had at least two points.
For Akron (14-7, 6-2), Demetrius Treadwell logged a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Quincy Diggs and Nick Harney poured in 15 and 11 points, respectively.
In a sluggish first half, Kent State shot just 38.7 percent from the field, but Akron was even worse at 38.1 percent, as the Golden Flashes took a 26-22 lead into the break.
The Zips took control early in the second half and held a 37-35 lead with 12:05 left following a Harney layup, but the Golden Flashes scored six unanswered points to regain the advantage. Trailing in the final minute, Akron knotted the score at 57 on a Treadwell bucket with 34 seconds left, but Kent State responded on its final possession with Goodson's heroic jumper.
Kent State's bench outscored Akron's reserves, 21-11.
