South Orange, NJ (Sports Network) - Fuquan Edwin led all scorers with 16 points as the Seton Hall Pirates defeated the UMKC Kangaroos, 75-36, as part of the Hall of Fame Tip-off Tournament at Walsh Gym.
Eugene Teague added 14 points, Brian Oliver chipped in 13 points and Brandon Mobley registered a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds in the win for the Pirates (1-0).
Fred Chatmon led the Kangaroos (0-1) with nine points and eight rebounds off the bench as the starting five combined to shoot only 8-of-26 from the floor.
UMKC struggled out of the gate, making just 33.3 percent of its field goals in the first half. Seton Hall was hot, connecting on 52.4 percent of its shots, including 4-of-8 from beyond the three-point arc, as the Pirates took a 34-22 advantage into halftime.
The Kangaroos continued to have problems finding the basket after halftime, hitting on only 28.6 percent from the floor. The Pirates remained steady, shooting 46.7 percent, as they opened the second half on a 15-2 to take complete control of the game and coast to the easy victory.
The Pirates scored 30 points off of 20 Kangaroo turnovers. Seton Hall dominated on the boards, outrebounding UMKC 44-28. The visitors didn't do themselves any favors by converting a paltry 3-of-15 at the free-throw line on the night.
