Stanford hands No. 10 UConn first loss
Hartford, CT (SportsNetwork.com) - Chasson Randle had 22 points and Stanford beat No. 10 Connecticut 53-51 on Wednesday to hand the Huskies their first loss of the season.
UConn -- knocking off some rust after 11 days without a game -- had a 10-point lead at halftime but was held to just 13 points in the last 20 minutes.
Still, the Huskies had a couple of chances to win it near the end but Shabazz Napier missed a long jumper on one possession and gave the ball up on the last touch to Omar Calhoun, whose 3-point try about 10 feet beyond the arc hit the rim at the buzzer.
Josh Huestis scored 13 points for the Cardinal (8-2), who have won three in a row since falling to Pittsburgh on Nov. 26.
DeAndre Daniels scored 15 points and Napier had 12 to lead the Huskies (9-1), who last played Dec. 6. They were trying to go 10-0 for the fifth time in nine years and first time since 2010-11, when they won the NCAA title.
