NCAA Game Summary - Youngstown State at Kent State

Kent, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Derek Jackson paced five teammates in double figures with 15 points as the Kent State Golden Flashes beat the Youngstown State Penguins, 83-79, at the M.A.C. Center in a non-conference matchup.

Kris Brewer scored 14 points for Kent State (7-1). K.K. Simmons chipped in 12 points in only 17 minutes of action, making all four of his 3-point attempts. Mark Henniger added 11 points and led the team with seven boards, while Darren Goodson registered 10 points.

The Penguins (6-2) were led by a career-high 32 points from Kamren Belin, who also contributed seven rebounds, three steals and two blocks. Kendrick Perry added 15 points and five assists. Ryan Webber chipped in 10 points.

Youngstown State had 12 turnovers in the first half, which helped Kent State take a 42-30 lead into the half. The Golden Flashes outscored the Penguins 15-6 on points off turnovers.

The visitors played a strong second half by converting on 48.3 percent of its field goal attempts. Youngstown State was able to tie the game up with 12:20 remaining after Belin hit two free throws, but Kent State used a quick 9-2 run to pull away for good.

The Golden Flashes' bench outscored the Penguins' reserves, 25-10. Kent State was also strong in converting on its own misses by outscoring Youngstown State 18-8 on second chance points.
