GAME NOTES: This afternoon at Kaplan Arena the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs will clash with the Western Carolina Catamounts as part of the Legends Classic.

The Catamounts opened the tournament with a tough, 71-66 loss to Mercer on Friday. It was the third loss in five games for Western Carolina, which will close out this tournament on Sunday against host, William & Mary.

As for the Runnin' Bulldogs, they have dropped three of their last four games, including two in a row. The most recent setback came on Friday, as Gardner- Webb was narrowly defeated by William & Mary, 56-55. The Bulldogs opened their season with two victories, defeated Charlotte on the road, 78-70, while also grabbing a 76-61 decision against Mary Washington.

The Bulldogs lead the all-time series against Western Carolina, 6-5, but the Catamounts snapped a three-game slide against Gardner-Webb with a 75-59 victory last season.

The Catamounts were victims of their own poor shooting, as Western Carolina posted a pedestrian 38.7 percent shooting effort from the field, which included a horrible 3-of-24 clip from behind the arc. Mike Williams led the way with 16 points and he is currently the only player on the roster averaging double-figures on the season and comes into this game posting 13.2 ppg. Brandon Boggs added 12 points and seven rebounds for WCU, while Keaton Cole and Richie Gordon tallied 11 and 10 points, respectively. Gordon is second on the team in scoring, but the forward is netting just 9.6 ppg, to go along with 6.4 rpg.

The Tribe continued to give the Bulldogs chances to win the game on Friday, but Gardner-Webb was unable to capitalize on William & Mary's 18 turnovers. The Bulldogs finished with a meager 35.8 percent shooting effort from the field, which included an equally poor 7-of-25 clip from beyond the arc. Luke Davis led the way with 15 points in the setback, while Brian McNair added 12 points. Jon Moore, who entered the matchup against the Tribe leading the team with 16.6 ppg, had a terrible showing, as the guard finished just 1-of-9 from the floor, en route to a two-point performance.

The Bulldogs played an uninspired basketball game, and still only lost by one- point. Look for this Gardner-Webb squad to take out its frustrations against Western Carolina, which was also awful in its contest on Friday.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Gardner-Webb 67, Western Carolina 60
